This is the third year in a row the Averill clan joined us in Halloween trick or treating festivities. We all had early dinner, then Taj & Gabe came over for pure candy gathering fun. The previous two years we stuck close to the house asking our neighbors for canned food donations for the food bank. This year we left our altruistic motives and cozy block and headed for the big houses next to the school. We joined the hundreds of our Timberline neighbors with the same idea and really had a fun time together. The streets were lit up and houses were decorated as cup-carrying parents wandered and costumed kids darted from house to house. The weather was perfect... 60s and clear... coats were optional.
The kids' favorite house was the one that gave out full-size bars (Luke got Kit Kat and Josh got Starburst). We were proud when our kids screamed out "FULL SIZE BARS!!!" back to us. You know, it's good they were appreciative, and deservedly so. The grown-ups favorite house was the kind woman who offered us to-go cups with hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps. Uh, yes please.
And we will be back again next year, thank you very much.
