First Day of Kindergarten

It's really here! Josh's first day of kindergarten. He's been waiting patiently and excitedly for weeks now.

We got up at 7:30am, got dressed, ate cereal, packed an awesome lunch, and headed out the door at 8:30am to meet the caravan of friends and neighbors walking to school.

He was surprised by a visit from the "School Fairy" who wrote good wishes to Josh and the other students going to Blackwell Elementary with sidewalk chalk.

It's about a 1/2 mile walk downhill to the school. Josh led the pack of 7 kids and 7 parents as if to say, come on, let's pick up the pace a little! We made there by 8:45, and went over to Mrs. Galarpe's classroom door.

There was a sign outside the door to show where the kids were to line up, but no one stood in line yet, no one was quite sure about it.

At 8:55, the school bell buzzed, and Mrs. Galarpe walked out to greet her students. She asked them to line up, and they followed her instruction. Josh was warmly greeted at the door.

A minute later, all the kids and their giant backpacks were inside the door leaving a large group of parents and siblings looking around bewildered.
Some were crying or about to cry, including Luke (he wanted to go inside too.)
Liz and I resisted the urge to look in the big window with many of the other parents.
Liz will come home early from work to repeat the process at 3:30pm for closing bell. Josh will have a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies and cold milk ready for him when we get back home. Hopefully we'll find out all about his day... We'd take any information at all!
