What a July 4th!

Enjoying the view.

There was an Egg Toss for all ages at the Roche Harbor July 4th celebration.  There were hundreds of participants.  I was surprised they actually had enough eggs to go around.

Luke and I were partners.  We made it about 4 tosses before our thick-shelled egg splatted.  Josh and Kenzie were teamed up next to us, and lasted a bit longer than we did.

Then there were eating contests… first a pie-eating contest.  On the egg-splattered lawn, Liz might add.  Both boys opted out of hands-free belly-down lapping up a banana cream pie.  Mason came away with a 1st place medal!  Kenzie got right in there too.  These kids were up for anything!

Next came the doughnut eating contest.  Ages 6 and under ate 2 doughnuts.   Ages 7-10 ate 3.  Ages 11-16 ate 5.  And adults ate 10.  I thought this challenge was right up Luke’s alley, but alas, he didn’t go for it.  Much to our surprise, Josh hopped right up there and gave it his best shot against around 60 competitors in his age bracket.

We drove into Friday Harbor and parked the car in the ferry lane.  It had just started to rain, so we bid Julie and Cindy adieu, then walked through town to see what was going on.  We found an Opa! band playing, and listened for awhile.  The rain seemed to have scared everyone away, it was fairly subdued.  We walked up to an outdoor seafood bar & grill, ordered fish tacos, and sat down on stools overlooking the harbor.

After a 75 minute ferry ride and 2 hour drive back from Anacordes, we made it home just before 9 pm.  It was dark and dank with no prospect of a dry fireworks display.  So we cleaned up, started a ton of laundry, and got ready for our next adventure to start tomorrow…..   We’re going to Yellowstone National Park with the Wentzien family!
