Fresh from the backyard

The place we stayed on San Juan Island was on the waterfront of Garrison Bay. The first day was a bit gloomy to start, so the kids and I went out with shovels at low tide, found oysters and dug up clams.

We took in our seafood finds, and Liz, Julie & Cindy made clam chowder (mmmm!) Later Liz enjoyed a steamed oyster or two, certainly the biggest and probably the freshest ones she's ever had.

(The house had so many fake flowers scattered throughout, this photo of Liz with the dusty silk sunflowers in the background is my favorite.)
