San Diego

One of the nicest places to visit in the U.S. is San Diego. The last week in March we met many from Liz's family there for a week of soaking in the sun and playing in the sand. This was the view from the condo we were fortunate enough to stay in, overlooking Mission Beach. Josh and Luke enjoyed playing with their cousins, El & Hei. Liz enjoyed playing bridge with her sisters Margo & Jen and bro-in-law Jerome... and even managed to get her studying in!

Luke loved Uncle Jerome's new straw hat. Both Josh and Luke's favorite part of San Diego was the beach. I would've thought it would be the rides at Legoland, or maybe the panda bears at the San Diego Zoo but it really was the beach.

Josh played in the surf while Luke dug in the sand. Both boys had their turn biting it in the surf, knocked down by the waves, but they didn't seem to mind. The water was 59F, so a bit chilly. I liked the saltwater heated pool and hot tub better myself.

On our last day of vacation, we walked to Mexico. In hindsight (given the drug-related riots and kidnappings in Tijuana) this wasn't the smartest move we'd ever made. (There goes my "mother of the year" award... again.) But it was an unforgettable experience. Josh walked many miles that day and saw many people trying to sell badly replicated versions of Dora the Explorer and Spiderman. There was nothing but a walk and a turnstile to get into Mexico, but it took us 2.5 hours waiting on a bus to get back out! We were thankful for our seat on the bus though, because there was a 2 hour line to walk through as well! The line of cars was so dense and slow, there were vendors walking along side doing a brisk business. Even our bus driver let a guy come onboard to sell churros and drinks. (Yum!) We really enjoyed absolutely perfect weather all week long... 70's and sunny.

We got back on one of the few flights to Seattle that weren't canceled, but couldn't make it home because of all the SNOW!!! Our neighbor Deborah couldn't make it down the big Sahalee hill to get us, so we stayed in a hotel by the airport until it melted the next day. There was still a lot left when we got home though!

There's Josh getting a snowball ready to throw at me... or maybe his brother.

Home Sweet Home!!! Snow and all.
