was a psychology experiment on how kids deal with stress. It was 2
hours of playing games with a researcher while being filmed and me
behind a 2-way mirror. They put ECG leads on his chest and finger to
measure his heart rate during various tasks... like trying to open a
bag with a toy inside but it's knotted (and sewed) closed. He just
rolled with it on these impossible tasks. I asked Luke what his
favorite part was, and he said excitedly, everything!!! He earned a
prize, a t-shirt, and a stipend.
He was invited to do a second study afterward that involved wearing an
EEG cap while doing a series of computer activities like catch the
blue fish. So as one researcher read a Toy Story book to him, two
others quickly added electrode gel and 30+ leads to his astronaut
helmet. He is an easy going guy and didn't care a bit.
We talked to Liz as we drove home, and he said "we are the workers,
right?" Sure enough are.
I'm so proud of our little astronaut.
